About

Jonathan Elliott - Life Coach

Meet Jonathan Elliott

I feel lucky to have arrived at a place where I feel comfortable in my own skin, but in truth, luck had little to do with it. It’s been a journey – from my birth and placement in a Catholic orphanage for the first 18 months of my life, to my adoption – to the search that began in 1997 for my biological family and answers to questions around identity that had long haunted me – to the present day – always growing, always restless, always questioning.

With a degree in Business Management and a year in law school, I ran away to sea in 1979 at the age of 25 leaving a seemingly comfortable life in the Midwest growing up with horses, and signed on as a crewmember/diver with Treasure Salvors Inc, Key West FL. The expedition had already been engaged for some years in the search for two Spanish treasure galleons lost in a violent hurricane off the Florida Keys in September 1622, two days out of Havana Cuba while enroute back to Spain. During the ensuing years on the expedition, the galleons were located and an unimaginable amount of artifacts and treasure were recovered.

My Key West years were a catalyst but along the way, I discovered other, more personal and priceless treasures, among them who I was and what I was made of in the face of great hardship, danger, discouragement, defeat, loneliness, fear, hope, courage, and steadfast resolve. Today, all these years later, on my fifth (and final) marriage, weathering a lifetime of depression, the treasure of knowing myself, knowing my own soul, has been by far the most enduring gift of my life. I profoundly know what it means to suffer.

My journey to life coaching started as a “still small voice” some years ago with the growing awareness of how profound my life path has been, what I’ve learned, how much I’d grown, and the dramatic positive impact all of this has had on my life. I became aware that I had gifts to share and coaching was a way to align who I had become in the world with what I had come to do in the world, to the betterment of others. The realized obligation to share my gifts aligned perfectly with the coaching profession.

The journey of discovery is always an adventure, and it almost never goes the way we think it will, or should. The best clients, and the ones who make the most progress, come to the adventure of life coaching with courage, openness, curiosity, motivation, the capacity for self-reflection, and a sense of humor. These things, together with “Ninja” level listening and questioning, create a clearly charted path toward resolution of the things that keep my clients awake at night.

My work is concerned generally with helping my clients expand their fields of vision, developing access to resources often unknown within themselves. Outcomes include new perspectives, compassion, and a newly developed sense of powerful choice, excitement, and self-empowerment. This is the “Why” of the work I do.

It has been, and continues to be, an honor to co-create life altering transformation for my clients.

The following are some of the issues commonly resolved by my coaching clients in our work together:

Engaging in difficult conversations.
Giving yourself permission to dream (bigger).
Listening to your own intuition.
Staying hopeful or engaged.
Self acceptance or judgement.
Being alone with yourself.
Going toward joy and happiness.
Overcoming limiting beliefs.
Feeling comfortable in your own skin.
Being seen.
Managing anger
Trusting yourself or others.
Recognizing your own creativity.
Setting healthy boundaries.
Knowing your own value.
Creating work/life balance.
Finding motivation.
Finding forgiveness.

We are all works in progress, but to make progress takes work. Coaching represents a substantial investment in time, money, and energy. If you need a strategic partner to help you find your “treasure”, we should talk. You don’t have to go it alone. Reach out today. You’ll wonder why you waited so long.

““I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”. Nelson Mandela
